The page has to deserve the query.
On-page SEO is the assignment of a query to one URL, and the writing that makes that URL the obvious answer.
The same URL has to rank, be quotable, be named in chat, and be a source in the overview.
A named result is published when that client clears the figure.
On-page SEO
01 — The gap
Several URLs want the same query.
A guide, a product page, and a blog post all target one phrase. Search picks a compromise. The buyer lands on the wrong job.
02 — The work
Query assignments
One URL per priority query, and a list of queries that should stay off the site.
03 — The close
Reporting
The assignment table, what shipped, and which conflicts are still open.
The work
What this is
A title stuffed with synonyms is not on-page SEO. The work is narrower: what the searcher is trying to do, whether this URL is the one that should answer, and whether the opening lines actually answer it.
The same passage has to work for a person who clicked and for a system that lifts a sentence. That is why on-page work here is written beside answer engine optimization, not after it as an afterthought.
The problem
What usually breaks
01
Several URLs want the same query.
A guide, a product page, and a blog post all target one phrase. Search picks a compromise. The buyer lands on the wrong job.
02
The page defines the category and never takes a side.
Glossaries that repeat a vendor’s wording are easy to publish and hard to cite. They do not help someone choose.
03
Internal links point at the homepage.
The body mentions the offer and links the brand, not the URL that was assigned to the query.
The practice
How ShoutRank approaches it
We freeze a query list and give each one a single URL, including the terms that should not get a page. Then the outline: the answer near the top, the detail a person still needs, the internal links that match the assignment.
Writers can use the brief, or we draft beside them. We do not run a content mill that publishes a post because a keyword tool said the volume was round.
Included
What the work includes
01
Query assignments
One URL per priority query, and a list of queries that should stay off the site.
02
Page briefs
The question, the answer, the proof, and the links. Enough for a writer to ship.
03
On-page edits
Title, H1, opening, headings, and the internal links that were pointing elsewhere.
04
A conflict list
URLs that still compete, with a recommendation to merge, redirect, or retarget.
Sequence
Process
- 1
Discovery
Read the queries the business wants, and the ones Search Console already shows.
- 2
Audit
Find every URL that could be read as the answer, including the ones that should not be.
- 3
Strategy
Assign the query, write the brief, and mark what must be true on the page for the assignment to hold.
- 4
Implementation
Edit or draft the pages with the people who publish.
- 5
Monitoring
Watch impressions and the landing URL, not a blended content score.
- 6
Optimization
Rewrite openings that rank and do not get clicked, or get clicked and do not match the page.
- 7
Reporting
The assignment table, what shipped, and which conflicts are still open.
The desk
Why ShoutRank
One URL, written down
If the assignment is not in a table, the next article will target the same query by accident.
The opening has to be quotable
We write the first lines so a person can use them and an answer can lift them without inventing the offer.
Briefs your team can keep
The point of the brief is that your writers can run the next page without us in the doc.
The report
How success is measured
Impressions and clicks on the assigned query set, by URL.
Whether the ranking URL is the one in the assignment table.
The queries that were deliberately not given a page, so they do not creep back.
A named client result is published when that client clears the figure. Until then the report is the measurement.
ShoutRank does not guarantee a ranking or a citation.
