Link building

An update the editor accepts.

A niche edit is a correction or addition to a page that already exists, made because the page is better with it. ShoutRank does not pay to insert a link.

The same URL has to rank, be quotable, be named in chat, and be a source in the overview.

A named result is published when that client clears the figure.

Niche edit link building

  1. 01 — The gap

The page is outdated and the writer has moved on.

Someone still owns it, or nobody does. A note to a dead inbox is not a strategy.

  2. 02 — The work

    Page notes

What is missing or wrong, with the sentence a reader is missing.

  3. 03 — The close

    Reporting

Updates accepted, updates refused, and pitches we did not send.

The work

What this is

The phrase is used in the industry for a paid sentence dropped into an old article. That is a hidden placement. We use the other meaning: the editor agrees the page is missing a source, a step, or a product, and they change it.

If they want a new piece instead, that is a guest post. If the change is a reported story, that is digital PR.

The problem

What usually breaks

  1. 01

The page is outdated and the writer has moved on.

Someone still owns it, or nobody does. A note to a dead inbox is not a strategy.

  2. 02

Vendors sell “niche edits” as inventory.

The page did not need you. The sentence is there because an invoice was paid. Readers and editors can tell, and so can a later audit.

  3. 03

    The suggested line flatters you.

“Best in class” is not an update. A missing step or a factual error is.

The practice

How ShoutRank approaches it

We open the page and write down what a reader still needs. The email says that, and offers a source. Payment for the insertion is not on the table. If the editor wants a labeled sponsorship, it is labeled and it is not reported as an edit.

We keep a copy of the pitch so the client can see we asked for a correction, not for a disguised ad.

Included

What the work includes

  • 01

    Page notes

What is missing or wrong, with the sentence a reader is missing.

  • 02

    Owner

Who edits the page now, if anyone does.

  • 03

    Pitch

The note that was sent, kept for the file.

  • 04

    Before and after

The paragraph as it was, and as it went live, if they changed it.

Sequence

Process

  1. 1

    Discovery

Find pages that already rank or get cited for the topic.

  2. 2

    Audit

Read them. Skip pages that are complete.

  3. 3

    Strategy

Identify a living editor. Stop if the site has no one to say yes.

  4. 4

    Implementation

Send the correction. Do not offer payment for the link.

  5. 5

    Monitoring

If they update, check the sentence for accuracy.

  6. 6

    Optimization

If they ask for money, decline or treat it as labeled advertising, outside this report.

  7. 7

    Reporting

Updates accepted, updates refused, and pitches we did not send.

The desk

Why ShoutRank

  • Unpaid on purpose

A paid insertion is not a niche edit in this practice.

  • The page has to need it

We do not add you to a paragraph that was finished.

  • The pitch is on file

You can see what was asked. There is no private version of the outreach.

The report

How success is measured

  • Pages updated by the editor.

  • Accuracy of the new sentence.

  • Offers to pay that we declined.

  • A named client result is published when that client clears the figure. Until then the report is the measurement.

ShoutRank does not guarantee a ranking or a citation.
