Link building

Sources a careful reader trusts.

Authority link building aims at publishers whose other work a buyer would already believe. The bar is the source, not a metric in a tool.

The same URL has to rank, be quotable, be named in chat, and be a source in the overview.

A named result is published when that client clears the figure.

Authority link building

  1. 01 — The gap

The metric and the reputation disagree.

A tool ranks a content mill above a specialist journal. Chasing the metric collects the wrong neighbors.

  2. 02 — The work

    Reference list

Sources the buyer already trusts, with why.

  3. 03 — The close

    Reporting

Assets published, pitches sent, and citations from the reference list.

The work

What this is

“Authority” is often a number sold beside a placement. We use the word for something you can check: a known editorial standard, citations from other serious pages, and a beat your buyer recognizes. A high score on a site you would not read does not qualify.

These targets overlap digital PR and editorial links. The difference is the filter. If the source is not one you would cite in your own sales deck, it is not an authority target.

The problem

What usually breaks

  1. 01

The metric and the reputation disagree.

A tool ranks a content mill above a specialist journal. Chasing the metric collects the wrong neighbors.

  2. 02

Authority is treated as a package.

Ten “DR 70” links, topic irrelevant, anchors identical. The pattern is the risk.

  3. 03

The brand has no asset those sources would cite.

A homepage slogan is not a source for a journal, a standards body, or a national desk.

The practice

How ShoutRank approaches it

We name the sources in the category that a buyer already treats as references. Then we ask what those sources cite: original data, documentation, a clear definition. If you do not have that yet, the first deliverable is the asset, not the pitch.

We do not buy access to those domains.

Included

What the work includes

  • 01

    Reference list

Sources the buyer already trusts, with why.

  • 02

    Asset gap

What you would need to publish before a pitch makes sense.

  • 03

    Pitches

    Only after the asset exists.

  • 04

    Citations

Where a reference source mentioned you, and whether the asset is what they used.

Sequence

Process

  1. 1

    Discovery

List reference sources with the sales and subject-matter leads.

  2. 2

    Audit

Read what those sources cite in similar stories.

  3. 3

    Strategy

Decide whether the asset exists. If it does not, stop the outreach.

  4. 4

    Implementation

Pitch the asset to the specific editor or author.

  5. 5

    Monitoring

    Track whether they used it.

  6. 6

    Optimization

Keep the list short when the category only has a few real references.

  7. 7

    Reporting

Assets published, pitches sent, and citations from the reference list.

The desk

Why ShoutRank

  • Reputation you can explain

We can say why a source is on the list without opening a third-party score.

  • Asset before ask

Outreach without something citable wastes the editor and the brand.

  • No packages

Authority is not a SKU of ten links.

The report

How success is measured

  • Mentions from the agreed reference list.

  • Assets those mentions actually used.

  • Targets dropped because they were only a metric.

  • A named client result is published when that client clears the figure. Until then the report is the measurement.

ShoutRank does not guarantee a ranking or a citation.
