AI Search
A source in the overview, or not.
Google AI Overview SEO asks one question: on the queries that show an overview, is your URL one of the sources Google links?
The same URL has to rank, be quotable, be named in chat, and be a source in the overview.
A named result is published when that client clears the figure.
Google AI Overview SEO
01 — The gap
The overview cites a definition, not a vendor.
Wikipedia, a government page, or a trade journal answers the “what is” query. Your commercial page never defines the term.
02 — The work
Query split
Overview present, overview absent, and not checked.
03 — The close
Reporting
The split, the sources, and whether your URL was linked.
The work
What this is
The overview is a Google surface. Treating it as a ChatGPT project sends the team to edit the wrong thing. The page still has to be indexed, and the opening still has to answer the query in language a summary can use.
The practice name is AIO. This page uses the words buyers search for. The measurement rule is the same: if we did not see an overview, we do not report a citation.
The problem
What usually breaks
01
The overview cites a definition, not a vendor.
Wikipedia, a government page, or a trade journal answers the “what is” query. Your commercial page never defines the term.
02
Filters and parameters are what Google linked.
The canonical you wanted is not the URL in the source chip. A messy template won.
03
The team celebrates a snippet and calls it an overview.
A featured snippet is a different unit. The fix for one is not automatically the fix for the other.
The practice
How ShoutRank approaches it
We separate overview queries from the rest of the SEO map. For overview queries we read the linked sources and the sentence Google showed. Then we decide whether your page can say that sentence truthfully.
Template problems go to technical SEO. A missing definition goes to the page. A missing third-party explanation goes to citation building.

Why ShoutRank
We name the surface
AI Overview means the Google block. It does not mean “AI” in general.
Canonicals are part of the job
Being cited on a parameter URL is not the same as being cited on the page you maintain.
No invented coverage rate
We do not publish a percentage of all overviews on the internet. We publish the queries we checked.
The report
How success is measured
Share of checked queries that showed an overview.
Share of those overviews that linked the assigned URL.
Wrong URLs linked, including your own duplicates.
A named client result is published when that client clears the figure. Until then the report is the measurement.
ShoutRank does not guarantee a ranking or a citation.
