# B2B category capture

A software company that ranks for its brand and loses the category queries where buyers build a shortlist.
Category and comparison pages that can win the click in search and the mention when a model is asked who the options are.

Sector: Software.

Surfaces: Organic search, Chat answers, Perplexity citations.

## The situation

Brand demand is healthy. Non-brand demand is not. The blog publishes around the product, but the pages a buyer needs — what the category is, who it is for, how the options differ — either do not exist or read like a feature dump.

## The shape of the program

We pick a short list of commercial queries and give each one a page with a job. Definitions lead. Comparisons name competitors directly, because answer engines will name them anyway. Proof is specific: implementation time, data requirements, who the product is a poor fit for.

Technical work clears the path: crawl waste, orphaned docs, and parameter URLs that dilute the category pages. Entity work makes sure the product, the company, and the category are not three confusing names.

- A query map tied to pipeline stages, not to a keyword tool export
- Comparison pages with a point of view and a date
- Documentation linked from the marketing pages models already fetch
- A fixed prompt set for monthly citation review

## What we watch

Non-brand impressions and clicks on the target set, assisted pipeline where analytics can see it, and citation share against the three competitors that show up most often in answers.

This is a program shape, not a client case study. A named result is published when that client clears the figure.
