# Wix SEO

Wix SEO from ShoutRank. Use the controls Wix provides, and plan around the ones it does not, without pretending the site is a custom stack.
Wix SEO uses the platform’s own SEO tools and pages, and is honest about routes and markup you cannot fully control.

Wix has improved its titles, redirects, and sitemap controls. It is still a hosted builder. Advice copied from a custom stack — arbitrary server headers, any URL pattern, any render mode — wastes a week. The useful work is the pages, the redirects, and the index settings Wix will honor.

If those controls cannot express the information architecture, the conversation becomes a [migration](https://shoutrank.com/seo-migration). We do not pretend a workaround in a custom embed is a strategy.

ShoutRank does not guarantee a ranking or a citation.

## The problem

### Old URLs from a previous Wix or a previous host.

Redirects were skipped. The new pages are fine and the old demand 404s.

### Blog categories and tags are indexable by default.

Thin archives sit next to a handful of real posts.

### The team wants markup the editor will not keep.

A custom embed breaks on the next edit, or duplicates the platform’s own tags.

## How ShoutRank approaches it

We list what Wix will let us set: titles, descriptions, canonicals, redirects, and which pages are hidden from search. We use those. We write down what we cannot set, so it is not rediscovered as a bug.

Content assignments follow [on-page SEO](https://shoutrank.com/on-page-seo) within the page types Wix supports.

## What the work includes

### Control list

Settings we will use, and settings the platform does not offer.

### Redirect map

Old URLs that still have demand, pointed at the new page.

### Index rules

Pages and blog routes that should stay out of search.

### Page briefs

For the URLs the business actually needs.

## Process

### Discovery

Confirm the site is staying on Wix.

### Audit

Fetch the live pages and the sitemap Wix emits.

### Strategy

Map old URLs that still earn impressions.

### Implementation

Set titles, canonicals, redirects, and index flags in Wix.

### Monitoring

Refetch after publish.

### Optimization

Stop maintaining embeds that fight the platform.

### Reporting

The control list, the redirects, and the pages still blocked by a platform limit.

## Why ShoutRank

### Platform limits in writing

You should know what cannot be fixed without leaving Wix.

### Native settings first

A custom code snippet is the last resort, not the starting point.

### Redirects included

A redesign that drops the old URLs is the usual self-inflicted loss.

## How success is measured

Priority pages with unique titles and indexable HTML.

Old URLs redirecting to the assigned page.

Limits documented rather than patched over.

A named client result is published when that client clears the figure. Until then the report is the measurement.

## Questions

### Is Wix “bad for SEO”?

It can rank. The constraint is control. If the architecture needs routes Wix cannot make, the limit is real and we will say so.

### Should we add a dozen SEO apps from the market?

No. Start with Wix’s own settings. Extra apps tend to duplicate tags.

### Can you migrate Wix to WordPress or Webflow?

Yes, as a migration, with the redirect map from this work carried over.
