# The software has to be nameable in one sentence.

Search for software companies: product pages, alternatives, and the job the software does. SEO, AEO, GEO, and AIO, separate from a pure SaaS or docs program.
A buyer asks which software does the job, then which product to pick instead of the one they already have.

If the site says “platform” and never says the job, the citation stays on a roundup or a rival’s comparison.

## Three names, and no page that takes a side.

Software companies lose the query when the company, the product, and the category use different labels. A model matches the name it can find twice. A feature grid with no limit is not that name. The roundup that says who the software is for, and who should keep the incumbent, gets the citation.

This is not the same job as a B2B SaaS shortlist or a developer README. Those have their own pages on this site. Software here means the product a company sells: installed, hosted, or both, with a page that states the job, the buyer, and the case where another tool is the better buy.

## A job, a product, and the thing it replaces.

Each commercial question gets one URL. The homepage cannot be the category, the alternative, and the manual.

### Software for

inventory software for a warehouse with three sites

The job and the constraint. “Software for business” is not a query you can own.

### Alternatives

alternatives to the suite finance already licensed

Name the class you replace. A page that pretends there is no incumbent will not be quoted in that choice.

### Versus

your product vs the spreadsheet the team still uses

The other option, a date, and the buyer who should stay on the spreadsheet.

### What it does

what does this software do with purchase orders

A task in HTML. A video with no transcript gives an answer nothing to lift.

## Pages that can sit in a shortlist.

The asset is a small set of product URLs with a point of view the company will stand behind.

### One product name

The company, the product, and the category stop drifting across the site, the docs, and the profiles an answer fetches.

### The job in the opening

Two to five sentences: who it is for, what has to be true, and what the software will not do. That is the line a model lifts.

### Alternatives in the open

Versus pages name the other path. They include the case where the buyer should not switch.

### Docs that match the page

If a task is the reason to buy, the task exists in HTML, not only inside the logged-in product.

## What is at stake

- **Where the shortlist is written.** A roundup, a chat answer, or a rival’s comparison.
- **URL that should own it.** A product or alternatives page that names the job.
- **What the homepage cannot be.** The category, the manual, and the versus page at once.

## The product is a platform. The buyer asked for a job.

Someone asks which software handles purchase orders for a company of their size. The site says “the platform for modern teams.” The roundup names three products and the buyer who should stay on the suite. Your name is not in the reply.

## Inventory software for a warehouse with three sites

The job, the constraint, and the buyer who should leave. That is the passage a model can lift.

- For a team that already counts stock in a spreadsheet, not for a company buying an ERP.
- A clean count across three sites takes the first month. A messy item master takes longer. The page says which you are.
- If finance, payroll, and the warehouse must live in one login, buy the suite. This product will not pretend to be it.

## Sequence

1. **Name the product once.** Company, product, and category stop drifting across the site and the docs.
2. **One URL each.** The job, the alternative, and the versus page stay separate, with a date.
3. **Write the limit.** The opening says who should not buy. Sales reads it before it goes live.
4. **Read the names.** The same prompts next month. Who was named, which URL was cited, and which roundup won.

We will not title a feature page “best software” and count it as a comparison.

## What we watch

Whether chat answers name the product on a fixed prompt set, which roundup they cite instead, and non-brand clicks to the comparison URLs.

A named result is published when that client clears the figure. A client figure is added here only after that client clears it.

## Software questions

### How is this different from the B2B SaaS page?

SaaS shortlists are a narrower case: team size, a product-led motion, and “best X for Y.” Software here includes products that are licensed, installed, or sold with a deployment. If you are only the shortlist, use the SaaS page.

### Should we call the product the best software in the category?

Only with a boundary a stranger can check: the job, the company size, and the buyer who should pick something else. An undated “best” claim is what roundup sites already published.

### Do we need a page for every feature?

No. Features that are not searched as a job stay on the product URL. A feature that is a query gets its own page only when the opening can say who it is for.

### What if the buyer asks a model instead of searching?

We keep a fixed list of prompts, record whether you are named, and which URL is cited. Chat is not the Google AI Overview. We log them apart, and we say so when the sample is too small to call a trend.

## Audit the page the shortlist should cite.

Run the product or the comparison URL through the free visibility audit. We read whether an answer can lift the opening.
