# The citation is a point of view, not a recap.

Search for accounting, consulting, and agencies: long research cycles and thought-leadership citations. SEO, AEO, GEO, and AIO.
A buyer reads for months before they hire a firm.

Answers name the piece that took a position. A news recap in your blog voice does not get named.

## The research cycle is longer than a ranking report.

Accounting, consulting, and agencies are hired after a slow read: an operator comparing outsourced controllers, a CFO testing who understands a filing, a founder asking which firm has a method for the problem. Search captures the early questions. Chat answers capture the “who is credible on this” moment. Both cite a page with a point of view and a named author. Both ignore a post that summarizes last week’s headline.

The firm’s own site often hides the partners who would do the work. Thought leadership is unsigned, or signed by a brand. When the author leaves, the idea leaves with them because the firm never owned the URL. Service pages then say “full service” and lose to a specialist who named the engagement.

## A problem, a method, a person.

Service pages say what you sell. Essays say what you believe. They should agree, and they should not be the same URL.

### Hiring

outsourced controller for a seed-stage company

The engagement, the company stage, and what you will not take on. “Full service” is not a query anyone types.

### Method

how a firm scopes a market-entry study

Steps you actually use. A recap of a framework everyone has read will not be the citation.

### Credibility

who advises on transfer pricing for a first filing

A named person with the work they have done, in language the firm’s standards allow.

### Firm versus firm

boutique consultancy vs a big firm for a 90-day project

Say which engagement fits a small team. Pretending you are both is how the answer picks neither.

## An author, a method, and an engagement page.

The firm owns the URL. The person is named. The measurement accepts that the hire happens later.

### Engagement pages

Each offer a buyer can hire has a URL: who it is for, how a project starts, and the work you decline. Partner names on that page are people who still do the work.

### Essays with a position

A piece worth citing argues something and shows the method. We stop the cadence of posts that only rephrase the news.

### Authors the firm keeps

Bylines are real. When someone leaves, the firm decides what stays under a firm author and what is updated. Orphaned thought leadership is how the citation walks out the door.

### A long-cycle read of results

We watch assisted reads and later conversations, not last-click fantasy. If the sample is too small to claim influence, the report says that.

## Cited domains

en.wikipedia.org is the most cited domain in Professional services in this snapshot.

This data is accumulated from multiple sources and internal training data, which helps us get the client cited.

| Domain | AI Overview | ChatGPT | Gemini | AI Mode | Perplexity |

A dash means this snapshot has no count for that engine. A zero means the domain was not cited in the measured sample.

## What is at stake

- **How long the read is.** Months, then a question about who is credible on the problem.
- **URL that should own it.** An engagement page, plus an essay that takes a position.
- **What gets ignored.** A news recap, an unsigned post, a page that says “full service.”

## The citation walks out with the author.

A CFO or a founder spends a quarter reading, then asks who actually knows the problem. Answers name a method and a person. If the essay is unsigned, or the partner who wrote it has left and the firm never owned the idea, the firm is absent from the moment of the hire.

## Outsourced controller for a seed-stage company

The offer, the person, and the work you decline. The essay that argues the method lives beside it, not instead of it.

- Monthly close, board numbers, and the mess we will not inherit.
- The partner named on the page still does this work. A former author’s bio does not stay up as a promise.
- A market-entry study is a different URL. This page does not pretend to be every service the firm has ever invoiced.

## Sequence

1. **Name the engagements.** Each offer a buyer can hire gets a URL: stage, start, and what you decline.
2. **Keep a point of view.** Essays argue and show the method. Posts that only rephrase the news stop.
3. **Decide what survives a departure.** The firm chooses what stays under a firm author and what must be rewritten.
4. **Measure the long read.** Return visits and conversations sales can tie to a specific piece. No sourced-revenue figure invented from a ranking chart.

We will not ghostwrite a post under a partner who will not defend it, or keep a calendar of news rewrites and call it thought leadership.

## What we watch

Non-brand reads of engagement and method URLs, whether answers cite your essay or a generic explainer, and whether the named authors still match the people who sell the work.

A named result is published when that client clears the figure. A client figure is added here only after that client clears it.

## Professional services questions

### Is thought leadership just the blog?

No. The blog can host it, but a recap is not thought leadership. We keep the pieces that take a position and cut the ones that exist to fill a calendar.

### How do we measure a sale that takes two quarters?

By the pages serious buyers return to, the conversations sales can tie to a specific essay, and assisted paths where analytics allow. We do not invent a sourced-revenue figure from a ranking chart.

### Should every partner have a byline?

The ones who will be quoted and who will still be there to stand behind the piece. A ghostwritten post under a name that does not do the work is a trust problem when a buyer calls.

### How do we get cited for a method rather than a brand slogan?

Publish the method: the steps, the input you need from the client, and the engagement where it does not apply. Slogans are not passages models quote.

### What should we stop publishing?

News rewrites, “what is accounting” definitions, and service pages that list every industry you have ever invoiced. They split attention and give an answer nothing to prefer.

## Audit the essay or the engagement page.

The free visibility audit reads one URL. Pick the piece you want a buyer, or a model, to find six months before they hire.
