# “Best online” is a comparison, not a slogan.

Search for schools and edtech: program comparisons, course pages, and “best online” queries. SEO, AEO, GEO, and AIO.
A prospective student is choosing a program, a format, and a cost, often against two other schools.

If your site only describes the campus, the ranking article that made the comparison gets the click and the citation.

## The catalog describes the course. The buyer is comparing programs.

Search for education splits in two. Degree and certificate queries are “which program,” “is it worth it,” and “best online X for [role].” Course queries are narrower: a skill, a length, and a price. Ranking sites and bootcamp roundups win both when the school’s own page never states outcomes, limits, or who should not enroll.

Edtech companies sit in the same comparisons with an extra naming problem. The product, the institution, and the certificate use three labels. An answer engine picks the name it can match. Accreditation, tuition, and time-to-complete that live only in a PDF are invisible to that match.

## Program against program, course against course.

Give each decision its own URL. A homepage cannot be the best online MBA and the Python course.

### Best online

Criteria first: format, time, cost band, and who it is a poor fit for. “Best” without criteria is a slogan.

### Program versus

Name the other path. Students already know it exists. Pretending otherwise loses the citation.

### Worth it

is a cybersecurity certificate worth it

Outcomes you can stand behind, a date, and what the certificate does not guarantee.

### Course

Length, level, and the next course. A syllabus PDF with no HTML will not be the snippet.

## Pages that can survive a comparison.

The school or the product has to make the comparison itself, with facts a third party could check.

### One URL per program

The degree, the certificate, and the short course do not share a template paragraph. Each page leads with format, time, and who it is for.

### Criteria before praise

Accreditation, tuition band, pace, and outcomes sit in the opening, in HTML. Rankings you did not earn are left out.

### A stable name

The institution, the product, and the credential use one public name across the site, the prospectus, and the profiles an answer can see.

### Comparisons you own

Versus pages name the alternative path and the student who should pick it instead. That is more citable than a page that claims to be the only option.

## Cited domains

reddit.com is the most cited domain in Education in this snapshot.

This data is accumulated from multiple sources and internal training data, which helps us get the client cited.

## What is at stake

- **What the student is choosing.** A program, a format, and a cost, against two other schools.
- **URL that should own it.** One program page, with criteria in the opening, in HTML.
- **Who gets the citation now.** The ranking article that made the comparison you avoided.

## The catalog describes the course. The query compares programs.

“Best online” and “is it worth it” are decisions. A campus story, a badge with no category, and a syllabus trapped in a PDF give the ranking site the passage. Edtech adds a naming mess: product, school, and certificate as three labels.

## Online MBA for working managers

Criteria before praise. A third party could check the facts without opening a prospectus PDF.

- Format, months, cost band, and the manager who should not enroll.
- Accreditation and outcomes you can date sit in the opening. A ranking you did not earn stays off.
- The Python short course is a different URL. It does not canonicalize to this degree.

## Sequence

1. **Split the decisions.** Degree, certificate, and short course each lead with format, time, and who it is for.
2. **Put facts in HTML.** Accreditation, tuition band, pace, and time-to-complete are on the page, under one public name.
3. **Own the comparison.** Versus pages name the other path and the student who should pick it.
4. **Drop the slogan.** The word “best” is not the target. The decision is. Invented salary figures stay out.

We will not stamp “best” across a template, hide tuition in a PDF, or share one thin description between a degree and a weekend course.

## What we watch

Impressions on program and course URLs, not on the brand homepage, plus whether answers cite your comparison or a ranking site for the “best online” question.

A named result is published when that client clears the figure. A client figure is added here only after that client clears it.

## Education questions

### Should we target “best online” queries directly?

Target the decision, not the word “best.” A page that lists format, time, cost band, and who should look elsewhere can be cited in those queries. A page that repeats “best” will not.

### How are program pages different from course pages?

A program page is a commitment: credential, pace, and outcome. A course page is a unit: skill, length, and price. They should not canonicalize to each other, and they should not share one thin description.

### What if outcomes are sensitive to publish?

Publish what you can date and defend: completion where you have it, the role the program is built for, and what you will not claim. Invented salary figures are not a tactic we will put on the page.

### Do ranking badges help AI answers?

A badge is not a passage. Answers quote sentences. If a third-party ranking is real, cite it with the year and the category. If it is a logo with no category, leave it off the opening.

### Can edtech and a university use the same plan?

The query shape is similar and the entity is not. A university page has to separate campus, school, and program. An edtech page has to separate product, certificate, and company. We write those as different maps.

## Audit the program page, not the homepage.

The free visibility audit shows whether that URL can be fetched and whether the opening can be quoted. Bring the program you want compared fairly.
